Who we are

The 85th of Line (85ème régiment d'infanterie de ligne) is and was a veteran unit, both in the current re-enactment world as it was in Napoleon's Grande Armée. The 85th was one of the Franch regiments which mostly consisted of Dutch/German speaking soldiers. The question: "But why are you speaking Dutch?!" is always quickly answered.

However, the 85th is much more than that. Its history begins way back in the 17th century with the widespread emergence of standing professional armies and is only dismissed in the Second World War. A unit with such a long and broad history is the perfect candidate for re-enactment. There is much to be told. Though, its history of the Napoleonic age is far more distinct.
